What is disclosure of an invention?
A disclosure of the invention is a document that contains the description of your invention or development that is delivered to the Industrial Property Area, information necessary to begin protection activities. This is a confidential document.

It is difficult to establish a priori if it is an invention, we recommend you consult the staff of the Unit's Liaison Coordination or the Industrial Property Area of the General Coordination for Academic Strengthening and Liaison. It is recommended that you make this consultation before making a publication or other type of disclosure.
What is intellectual property"?
It is the set of exclusive rights granted by the State by for a certain period of time to physical or legal persons who have made intellectual creations, particularly technological inventions and literary or artistic works. It is divided into Industrial Property and Copyright.
What is industrial property?
It is the exclusive right granted by the State to use or exploit in an industrial and commercial manner the inventions, or innovations of industrial application, or commercial indications made by individuals or companies to distinguish their products or services in the market.
What is an invention?
It is any new solution to a technical problem. In Mexico, according to Article 15 of the Industrial Property Law, an invention is considered: "Any human creation that allows the transformation of matter or energy that exists in nature, for its use by man and satisfying his specific needs" . For said creation to be patentable, the human being must have intervened, the discovery of something that already exists in nature is not acceptable as a patent. Patentable inventions include new and useful processes, machines, compositions of matter, some computer programs, and methods (including methods for making compositions or for making products).
How can I protect an invention?
Through patents, utility models, industrial designs, among others.
How do I know my invention is new?
According to section I of Article 12 of the new Industrial Property Law, it is everything that is not in the state of the art.
